The Seatrade Maritime News 20Under40 initiative aims to recognise the top 20 young maritime industry leaders under the age of 40.

We want to celebrate the successes and achievements of industry professionals who have made significant contributions to global maritime, demonstrating genuine leadership, innovation, and impact, and inspired others to do the same.

AM I ELIGIBLE TO ENTER?

Nominations will be open to any maritime professional under the age of 40on the nomination deadline, anywhere in the world, whose scope of work is making a genuine difference to maritime and the shipping market in their home region or beyond. Nomination dates will be announced soon.

HOW IS IT JUDGED?

Our judging panel will consist of the Seatrade Maritime Editorial Board who will consider the achievements of each candidate individually but will look carefully for evidence that demonstrates maritime leadership, ambition and commitment in line with the criteria below.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

The successful finalists will be announced during Seatrade Maritime UAE. Finalists will then be invited to collaborate with the Seatrade Maritime team over the next year on research, briefings and more exciting opportunities. 

HOW TO ENTER THE 20UNDER40?

Read through the entry form carefully and complete the required information. This includes demonstrating how you meet all of the following criteria:

Leadership Impact

1. Leadership Impact

You must have demonstrated strong leadership within your organisation or the maritime and shipping industry. This may include leadership in strategic decision-making, team management, or influencing the direction of the industry.

Innovation & Problem-Solving

2. Innovation & Problem-Solving

You should be able to showcase a track record of innovative thinking or problem-solving. This could involve developing or implementing new technologies, processes, or business models that have positively impacted the maritime sector.

Demonstrable Impact

3. Demonstrable Impact

You must provide clear evidence of your work’s impact on your organisation and the broader maritime and shipping industry; for example, increased revenue, cost savings, market growth, or successful project completions that have transformed their sector.

Industry Contributions & Advocacy

4. Industry Contributions & Advocacy

You should have contributed to industry development beyond your immediate workplace. This may include participation in industry forums, advocacy for regulatory changes, community involvement, or mentorship within the maritime sector.

Professional Growth & Recognition

You should have shown continuous professional development and growth within the maritime and shipping sector.

Vision for the Future

6. Vision for the Future

You should have a clear vision for the future of the maritime and shipping industry. This includes your perspective on upcoming challenges, trends, and opportunities, as well as how you plan to continue driving change and innovation.

You should exemplify high ethical standards, professionalism, and integrity in your personal and professional life.

Community & Environmental Responsibility

8. Community & Environmental Responsibility

You should demonstrate a commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement, for example initiatives that minimise the environmental impact of shipping, or engagement with local / global causes.
